Biorefineries apply a cascaded-use of biomass for the production of food, feed, biobased products & materials, chemicals and energy. There is great potential to enhance the use of biomass by smart and highly integrated processing to deliver both products and energy. The implementation of biorefineries will shift our economy towards increased sustainability by replacing fossil raw materials and energy. An integrated assessment of technology pathways could provide a better understanding of the potential of biorefineries.
This webinar deals with the technical, economic and environmental (TEE) assessment of biorefineries. It explains the methodology background and provides insight into an assessment tool generated within IEA Bioenergy Task 42. Using concrete examples, biorefinieres are benchmarked with fossil based processes and products. The TEE assessment initiative of IEA Bioenergy Task 42 is an open access approach to share information, data and results. The webinar also gives an outlook on how the TEE assessment tool and expertise can be used in the future by various stakeholders.
